There is a very interesting musical development that coincided with the 1970’s receiver power war. That was the emergence of jazz-rock fusion music, often referred to by musical insiders as “high energy” jazz. The manual is detailed and fairly straightforward, although there's nothing in there describing the Silicon Optix Reon video processor, which I found odd as it's a notable feature. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't even have known about this feature were it not for the Reviewer's Guide they sent. Anyway, I connected the unit to my Panasonic Blu-ray player and Verizon FIOS DVR via HDMI cables and connected my Squeezebox with an optical cable.

With an on-screen setup system that walks you through the entire process—from connecting speakers to setting up inputs to getting on Wi-Fi to running the room correction—almost anyone should be able to set up the AVR-S750H correctly.
It's a bleeding edge piece of gear, with an expansive feature set, exemplary sound quality and a highly sophisticated room correction system. Put in a movie, set the Trinnov system to Cinema and hear the sound exactly as it was created in the post production facility? Unless you have a massive room and crave virtually unlimited power reserves, this receiver is worth a hard look. I transitioned to this receiver from high-end separates costing four times what the R-972 costs and save for a bit of a drop off in terms of neutrality and dynamic range, didn't mind the transition. It's nice to see a manufacturer attack a segment of the market this vociferously. The R-972 covers every base in terms of cutting edge features and functionality; the only piece of the puzzle that remains for Sherwood is to craft a marketing campaign of equal strength.
I agree with Sam & Gene, in that price range you're better off looking for discounted name brand components from Yamaha, Marantz, Onkyo, etc. The packaging of this product is great to ensure you receiver the right receiver. Besides, the damage cases have not yet been reported because the receiver itself is durable. Everyone who considers a home theater system is new to set up and components at some point.
Yet it still comes in at a price that allows you to put together a very good basic audio system for about $500. This chart shows the level of distortion in each receiver at different output levels and the maximum power each receiver can deliver into 8-ohm loads with both channels driven at 1 kilohertz. The Onkyo TX-8220 had relatively high levels of distortion even at low volume levels. The Cambridge Audio AXR85 and Yamaha R-N303 had moderate levels of distortion, while the Sony STR-DH190 had lower distortion and the highest power output at 1 kHz. For comparison, we also included results for the much more expensive NAD C 316BEE integrated amplifier, which had the lowest levels of distortion but also the lowest power output.
